Guardian
Long time readers of this website know I am not the “go-to” reviewer for paranormal books. I have my little niche, I stay in it, and most of the time I’m content. However there are times where I read a little out of my comfort zone and have been pleasantly surprised by the result. Last year I took the chance and read Renegade, book one of The Protectors series and it quickly captured my imagination with magic, mages, and creatures right out of a nightmare all existing in a real world setting. Even if I wasn’t completely taken by the leading man, there were so many other great things about the story for me to enjoy and obsess over, especially his best friend Dr. Stefan Harper. Thank goodness I didn’t have to wait too long for Stefan’s story to be told in Guardian. For the mages of the Southeastern shire, the ghoul threat has slowly been intensifying. They are seeing more attacks on the mages and humans living around the Okefenokee swamplands and the victims are presenting with wounds that go above the normal attack pattern of a ghoul. Called to consult on the latest attack case, Dr. Stefan Harper figures this case is no different than any others he’s worked with the local sheriff’s department. But the federal agent also working the case is a woman Stefan never expected to see again, his former girlfriend Camellia Wray.
