When last we left the Warriors of the Mist, five Damned Warriors who are forced to spend their time under the river until a worthy supplicant makes a request for their aid, they had just taken over the stronghold of Merewen's uncle in their attempts to force the evil from Agathia. Unfortunately, the problems are deeper than just the evil of Merewen's uncle. The black magic is spreading throughout Agathia and in order to battle the magic, the Warriors must know more about their enemy. In order to discover it, the captain, Gideon, determines that the group must separate and that means that the scholar of the group, Duncan, is off to an abbey with a renowned library in the hopes of learning more of what they are fighting against.
