Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, Book 1)

Eternal Rider - Larissa Ione I thought I would review the first in the Lords of Deliverance series as an audio book. Eternal Rider, the first in the series, is really a continuation of Ione's Demonica series, but with the central characters being the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This book really sets up the scenario facing the Four Horsemen. The Horsemen are siblings - Reseph, Ares, Limos, and Thanatos. As children, the three boys were taken to the Earth and substituted for human children. There, they grew up unaware that they were really the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and immortals to boot. Ares in particular was living a regular life. He married, had children, and was shocked when his sister Limos came to him to reveal his true fate. After the deaths of his family, he and his siblings have been working for centuries to ensure that they are fighting on the side of the good guys when Armageddon hits. In order to do that, they need to prevent the breaking of their seals.

Each of them, once their seals break, will become the ultimate evil. Each has a trigger. When Reseph's seal is broken, he becomes Pestilence and begins to fight to turn his siblings by breaking their seals. His first target is Ares, who will become War when his breaks. Ares trigger is the death of a person and that person has become Cara. She became his agimortus through a series of events that were beyond control. But Cara is a human. As a human, she can only carry the agimortus for a limited time before it kills her, taking Ares down with it. Though they are racing against time and the ultimate evil, Ares and Cara can't resist the feelings they have for one another. What started as protecting himself soon becomes protecting Cara for Ares and the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
