Loving Lady Marcia (House of Brady)

Loving Lady Marcia - Kieran Kramer For those of us from Generation X there are certain common things we can all share about growing up. We remember the music, the clothes, and for people like me we definitely remember the television shows. Syndicated re-runs of shows like Gilligan’s Island and especially The Brady Bunch are so firmly entrenched in my memory that I always have a soft spot in my heart whenever I catch them today. It is with that same nostalgia to the “classics” that I went into Kieran Kramer’s latest book, Loving Lady Marcia, and I have to say that I had a perpetual smile on my face the entire time I read it.

Ms. Kramer manages to walk the line between spoofing the television show and creating a family of original characters. Lady Marcia Sherwood has all of the charisma and beauty of the Marcia that came before her, but she also carries an intelligence and vulnerability that you didn’t often see from her TV counterpart. She is evenly matched with Lord Duncan Lattimore, a man who has spent his life being a “fixer.” Given the responsibilities of an earldom at an early age, and also having to clean up the messes of his father and brother, Duncan has always tried to make everyone around him happy, sacrificing that same emotion for himself.
