An Heiress at Heart (Love's Grace)
One of the perks to my writing for this blog has been the opportunity to increase my exposure to different types of stories within the Romance genre. When I chose to read An Heiress at Heart, I was expecting a standard story about mistaken identities and the conflicts between honor and the heart. What I found was a wonderful story dealing with two people each facing crisis within themselves and how they are able to create a bond through love and faith that heals them both.Lizzie Poole has been given the golden opportunity for a second chance at a fulfilling life. At seventeen, Lizzie made the mistake of trusting her heart and virtue to a man unworthy of her affections. To make the matter harder, in defending her honor Lizzie’s younger brother Thomas shot the man in a duel and they were forced to flee from England to the outback of Australia. Once there, Lizzie forms a friendship with fellow expatriate Ria Smythe and for three years they share stories of their former lives in England and begin to think their sisterly bond might be closer to fact than fiction. Sadly, after years of contentment Lizzie loses everyone close to her through a series of tragedies, leaving her with nothing to tie her to Australia but sad memories. Before Ria’s death Lizzie makes a solemn vow to return to England and assume Ria’s place in her family to amend for Ria’s own youthful mistakes.
