No two retellings of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale will be told the same way. This makes it fun to see how authors put their own voice and ideas into a story where we all know the players and conclusion. In A Beastly Scandal, author Shereen Vedam creates a Belle like we haven’t seen before and matches her with a man whose beastliness isn’t at all what it seems.Lady Annabelle Marchant has been both blessed and cursed with a gift ever since she became a young woman. She has long had the ability to read people, from their mannerisms and their expressions she can get a sense of their thoughts. However, added to that ability is one of a more special nature: she has an awareness of the spirit world that sometimes allows her to foretell of events or lets her interact with ghosts. Her gifts have gotten her into trouble before and have most recently caused social scandal and a cancelled engagement. At the request of her grandfather Belle travels from London to the country home of the earl of Terrance in order to help the dowager countess exorcise what she is certain is a ghost of her late husband.
