The Devil of Clan Sinclair

The Devil of Clan Sinclair - Karen Ranney Have you ever noticed that book plots are cyclical? I sometimes wonder how that works. I wonder whether it is a publisher, editor, or totally an author thing. Normally I find this frustrating, but when an author rises above all of the others, when she writes as Ms. Ranney does, well, all the others fade into the background.

Virginia, an American heiress, had come to England with her father and fell in love at a soiree. She had snuck away into a seemingly empty room to read a juicy Broadsheet and there he was, Macrath Sinclair. He was also trying to get away from the crush, and they sat for an hour sharing and talking and laughing. Her father forbid her from seeing that Scotsman, and he married her off to an invalid with a penchant for spending all of her inheritance and cruelty to those who tried to love him. Less than a year later he died and she had a choice. Live in poverty with her mother-in-law and her sisters-in-law, or quickly get pregnant to keep the estate. Her husband’s attendant, Paul, offered his services, which made her feel ill… she decided to leave for Scotland in search of Macrath.
